Hello, my name is Miguel Gervais. I am the AET here at Fukaya Junior High School. As part of the Selective English Class, I have made this homepage which will link all of the students` pages for easy access.
Here is what one student, Miki, had to say about Fukaya Junior High School:
I`m going to introduce Fukaya Junior High School. There are 654 students. 7th grade 206, 8th grade 223, 9th grade 225. There are about 35 teachers and an Assistant English Teacher.
There are some different things between our school life and yours. For example, we don`t go to school either by car or by bus. Most students go there on foot. And someone who lives far from the school goes there by bicycle. And our class starts at 8:25. Don`t you think it starts early? Some students come to school before that time. Why? Because they practice sports.
We have 50 minutes per 1 period. After that, we have a 10 minute-break. We have four lessons in the morning. Then we have a lunch time. We don`t have to bring our "Obentou" (lunchbox) and can`t buy something to drink or eat at school. Our school lunch is called "kyushoku".
Several cooks make it at our school. And we carry it to each classroom. Then we eat it together there. So, I was surprised in your school (in Australia) when I went out of the classroom for lunch. And, Fukaya Junior High School has many kinds of club activities.
Baseball, softball, basketball, volleyball, soccer, rugby, track and field, soft tennis, table tennis, art, science, brassband, kendou and judo.
Each student belongs to one of these clubs. We practice them after school.
Do you know "kendou" and "judo"?
They are Japanese traditional sports. Perhaps, you watched them on the Olympics.
Our school has a lot of events too.
There are five tests in a year. And we enjoy the sports festival and the annual school festival very much. 7th grade students go skiing. 8th grade students go camping. 9th grade students go on a school trip.
We have a chorus festival and a marathon race as well. Of course, entrance and graduation ceremonies.
Now, 9th grade students are studying hard to pass the entrance examination for High School. Can you understand about Fukaya Junior High School a little? Please access the home page of our school. Its address is "http://www.fukaya-j.ed.jp". But this page is written in Japanese.
