Paanchali Saabatham (8th Dec. 2001 : Article reproduced from their leaflet)

An escerpt from the Hindu epic Mahabaratha, is a famous episode of the dice game between two warring factions, the Pandavas and the Kauravas. The Pandavas are caught in an insidious plot to remove them from their royal birthright. Sakuni, the uncle of the Kauravas, convinces the Pandavas to wage their wealth, themselves and finally their wife Draupadi, also known as Paanchaali.

Alas, the Pandavas lose everything and now totally lost as slaves give up their wife to the Kauravas. Draupadi is humiliated by the Kauravas in front of all the elders. In this heart-rending scene, Draupadi begs and pleads with the elders to save her dignity and honour. Dishevelled and in tears, she makes a vow that she will have her revenge on the Kauravas.

The Kauravas not at all moved by her tears and without any qualms, begin to disrobe Draupadi. Tugged hither and tither, Draupadi can only think of Lord Krishna, and in desperation, calls out to him, With one hand on her saree and the other raised to the heavens. Her cries are heard by Krishna, who smiles knowingly but does not come to her aid.

In the palace, Draupadi's efforts to hang on to her last shreds of honor finally gives way tnd she lets go, with two arms in supplication to Lord Krishna at that precise moment, Lord Krishna exclaims, "AKSHAYA!" and a miracle happens. Draupadi is given an unending flow of saree to cover her despite the continuous effort to disrobe her.

The entire court is dumbfounded and all are amazed at Krishna's intervention. However, the Kauravas, being blinded by their evil desires and passion for power, do not see the opportunity to repent their ways but continue to set the wheel of fate in motion.

The news of the Kaurava brothers reach their father. He too does not like what his sons are doing. He quickly storms into the hall where the guards were still trying to undress Draupadi and orders them to stop. He scolds his sons and has Draupadi Returned to her real husbands, the Pandava brothers, where she lives till the end of her days.

When the story of what happened to Draupadi was heard throughout India it was understood that Krishna helped Draupadi. This made the people happy as they knew that Krishna was looking after them.
