The Morgan Observatory
Odessa, Texas
This site is dedicated to the memory of Mr. Ronnie Morgan. Ronnie was most helpful as I attempted to gather information about the Morgan Observatory in Odessa and I regret never being able to meet him personally. Ronnie Morgan passed away July 23, 2003. Thanks for sharing, Ronnie.
In the 1950's Ben O. Morgan built an astronomical observatory at his home in the Country Club Estates on the east side of Odessa. As Mr. Morgan and his son, Ronnie, became more interested in astronomy a second, larger dome was built. The two domes are still visible behind 6100 Riders Road and can even be glimpsed from nearby Loop 338 near University Street.
The story of the Morgan Observatory is local history I
believe should be documented and, with the gracious help of Mr. & Mrs.
Ron Morgan, I will attempt to do so. A printed copy of this information
is available in the Southwest History section of the Ector County Library.
