Custer

Sitting Bull

George Armstrong Custer met his end on June 25th, 1876 at what has been called the Battle of the Little Big Horn.

He was defeated by the Lakota Nation under the leadership of chief Sitting Bull. A poem describing the battle (from the point of view of the whites) was published shortly thereafter in a western men's magazine. It was subsequently set to music, and has been recorded by Peter Feldmann & The Very Lonesome Boys on their CD "Tough And Wild".

Peter recorded the song with an instrumental introduction of the traditional Irish pub song Gerryowen, which George Custer made the official song of the 7th Calvary. GerryOwen fades up, played on mandolin, bano, & fiddle, introducing the ballad Custer.
