"Mon Troisieme Fils", Gilles Apap, has just released a great new CD titled "No Piano On That One". It's a selection of violin virtuoso pieces; mainly from the classical repertoire, some newly composed, that are usually performed with violin and piano. Gilles has chosen to keep the piano out of the picture, and has substituted such diverse instruments as harp, Parisien accordian, cymbalom, string orchestra, contra bass, and harpsichord for accompaning sounds. What a nice idea! The results provide lots of musical fun, along with fantastic displays of instrumental virtuosity. Myriam Lafar, of Paris, is an accordian player you can actually **like**! Philippe Noharet on contra bass is wonderful, as is harpsichordist Corey Jamason. Ludovit Kovac on cymbalom is outstanding. |
