FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

13 July, 2001

Peter Feldmann and the Very Lonesome Boys at Peter Strauss Ranch, Agoura, CA, August 12th.

Southern California bluegrass mainstay Peter Feldmann and his traditional bluegrass band "The Very Lonesome Boys" will give a special performance for the National Parks Service at the Peter Strauss Ranch in Agoura Hills on Sunday, August 12th, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM. Admission is free.

Peter Feldmann, who has been studying and performing old time and bluegrass music in California since 1961, will be bringing his band, "Peter Feldmann & The Very Lonesome Boys" to the historic Peter Strauss Ranch, located off of Kanan Road, for a special performance stressing the origins of the bluegrass sound.

A singer and mandolinist who learned much of his music and performing skills from Bill Monroe, the acknowledged founder of bluegrass style, Peter notes: "I want to reach back into roots country music sources, and combine some of those ideas with the more progressive sounds of these fine, younger musicians. This kind of music needs constant reinvention to stay vibrant and alive, and I’m excited with the new, old sounds we’re getting from the group."

Peter has been performing and presenting bluegrass, folk, string band, and related musics in California and Nevada since the early 1960’s, and is known as the founder of the Santa Barbara Old Time Fiddler’s Convention (now in its 30th year), and the original Bluebird Café in Santa Barbara, a music club highly influential on the Southern California Music scene. He has developed a new approach to the music, blending earlier songs and tunes with a more modern stylistic treatment, and calls the result "Neo-Classic Country Music".

The full, five-piece band includes bassist Tom Lee, veteran of the Cache Valley Drifters and The Bluegrass Cardinals, Mike Nadolson, head of Tricopolis Records in Orange County on Martin flat-top guitar. The banjo duties are ably handled by record producer David West (CMH Records), known for his song writing skills, while Fiddlin’ Tommy Marton, a former student of Byron Berline, presides on bluegrass fiddle.

Visitors are encouraged to come early, bring a picnic lunch and lounge in comfort on the 21,000 square foot lawn while waiting for the music to begin.

To get to Peter Strauss Ranch: Take the Ventura Freeway (101) to Kanan Road exit. Go south on Kanan Road 2.8 miles to Troutdale Road. Turn left on Troutdale Road to Mulholland Highway. Turn left on Mulholland Highway then right under the arch into the parking lot. Walk back across the bridge on Mulholland Highway and enter the main gate into the ranch. Free Parking.
