RACING VS. HAVING FUN

Is it possible to have fun while racing r/c cars? Yes, but it will depend on an individual’s attitude towards racing. If the mentality is "win at all costs" then you will not have fun. By having this mentality, the fun aspect is lost. The only fun a person will get with this attitude is when he/she wins. Anything else will be a disappointment, and the person will not have fun.

I have observed people with the "win at all costs" attitude, and have found some common factors. They will spend as much money as possible in order to gain a competitive advantage and will even resort to cheating. Such attitude is very destructive to the hobby, and beginners will become very discouraged not because of the hobby, but because of these "win at all costs" type of people.

The only way to have fun while racing is to race with the attitude that it is not all about winning, it is about having a good race. It is about spending a relaxing afternoon with friends, and having fun with the toy cars. It is not necessary to win in order to have fun.

This is a fun hobby that helps us escape from the pressures of work and life, so why add additional pressures and aggravation to our lives by making this hobby into a serious "win at all costs" work type of an environment? Hopefully more people will adapt the fun attitude and bring back the hobby to its fun years (1980's).
