Forty Years! The Norman High Class of ’65 has come a long way and we hope to see everyone at the July 22-23 40th reunion celebration.
The Reunion Committee is working hard and planning a fun and casual gathering that is sure to provide a great opportunity for us to catch up with old friends.
However, one classmate who has been a regular attendee at our reunions won’t be there. As you may know, Rick Olney has been diagnosed with an
aggressive form of Lou Gehrig’s disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).
Rick, a neurologist and founder of the ALS Clinic at the University of California San Francisco, dedicated his life’s work to the research and treatment of this terrible disease.
And, with just months to live,
Rick is meeting the challenge with enormous dignity, participating as a patient in the very drug study he designed.
He has produced public service announcements and recorded thousands of phrases into a computer to serve as his voice as he loses his ability to speak.
His story has been featured recently throughout the major media and his will to continue his research and caring for others as long as possible provides inspiration to the nation.
To let Rick know his friends in the Class of '65 are thinking of him as he faces ALS
and to recognize the amazing contribution he has made to the research and treatment of the disease ,
a special NORMAN HIGH SCHOOL CLASS OF 1965 40TH REUNION CAMPAIGN for the FUND TO HONOR DR. RICHARD OLNEY has been launched.
Please join the class in this very meaningful effort.
Your tax-deductible donation in any amount will be appreciated by the ALS Center
and will further the critical research Rick began. And, most importantly, it will
send a powerful message to Rick that the spirit of the Class of ’65 is strong and
that, 40 years later, our friendships not only survive, but thrive.
Thank you for helping with this worthy endeavor. Donations to the fund, which will benefit the UCSF ALS Center, can be made online or by mail. Details follow.
We look forward to seeing you in July!
Sincerely,
Joyce (Anderson) Buckner & Laura (Hill) Cantrell
